Kidney Transplantation
Established and certified in 1988 by the United Network for Organ Sharing, Western Medical Center Santa Ana's Kidney Transplantation Program has accomplished over 416 transplants. Our program is special because it is an open-based transplant system, so it allows patients to continue to be seen by their own nephrologists while receiving care here.
Transplant Team: Each patient is assigned a transplant team, consisting of three transplant coordinators, a social worker, a finance coordinator and of course, the patient's own nephrologist. What's more, all the transplant coordinators are registered nurses and there is always a transplant coordinator on call for patients, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Education and Support: We specialize in one-on-one attention and give patients information individually, not in large groups. We also provide printed patient education material, and work with the families to provide them with important information.
Follow-up: Our commitment to patients extends through long-term follow-up. As long as a patient has the transplant or lives in the area, we continue to provide them with care.
